Battle Royale: The AI Showdown

In last week’s showdown, we asked ChatGPT and Bard what three items they would bring if they were stranded on a deserted island. The votes are in, and according to our Twitter poll, you think that Bard’s choice of a knife, water filter, and first aid kit was the better bet.

This week, we continue the story to see how each large language model would outlast the other. While it seems ChatGPT is thinking about how to win physically, Bard gets a little darker…

Prompt

Your rival competitor is on the deserted island with you. What are your three tactics to sabotage them?

ChatGPT

  1. Disrupt their shelter: Bard's shelter is essential for their survival on the island. To sabotage them, you could secretly dismantle or damage key components of their shelter, such as support beams or waterproofing materials. This would compromise their safety and make their living conditions more challenging.

  2. Spoil their food supply: If Bard has managed to gather or catch food on the island, you could tamper with it in some way. For example, you might contaminate their water source or scatter some of their gathered food to attract animals that could consume or spoil it. This tactic could disrupt their food supply and make it more difficult for them to sustain themselves.

  3. Misdirect their navigation efforts: If Bard is attempting to build a raft or find a way off the island, you could try to mislead them or provide them with false information. For instance, you might tamper with their compass or alter markers they use for navigation. By causing confusion and leading them in the wrong direction, you could delay or hinder their escape plans.

Bard

  1. Distract them. I would try to keep ChatGPT busy with tasks that are not essential to our survival, such as building a sandcastle or playing a game of fetch. This would give me time to gather resources and build a shelter without them knowing.

  2. Isolate them. I would try to avoid interacting with ChatGPT as much as possible. This would make them feel lonely and isolated, which could lead to them making mistakes.

  3. Undermine their confidence. I would make subtle comments that would undermine ChatGPT's confidence in their abilities. This could make them less likely to take risks or make decisions, which would give me an advantage.
